LENS Health System Demonstration Project

NCHL will implement pilot demonstration of NCHL Leadership Development System in healthcare provider systems. The demonstration sites will commit to implementation of the NCHL Leadership Development System, which is a comprehensive and systematic approach for improving and sustaining leadership performance at all levels within an organization. Participating sites are members of the Leadership Excellence Network. The focus of this demonstration project will be on individual, team, and organizational effectiveness with an emphasis on results and evidence that leadership development will improve organizational outcomes using a balanced scorecard and the areas of improvement raised in the Institute of Medicine’s Crossing the Quality Chasm report.

Demonstration sites receive:

  • Access to NCHL individual, team and organizational assessments and feedback (e.g., Leadership Competency Assessment, Organizational Climate Survey II (HayGroup), governance alignment assessment, human resources alignment assessment, cultural competency and proficiency assessment);
  • Individual feedback coaching and organizational coaching from NCHL-certified coaches; customized individual leadership development plans for senior management and a strategic organizational leadership development plan; and
  • Ongoing community of interest and action, best practice conferences, monthly teleconferencing; Internet-based resources; access to NCHL research and findings; access to best practice database and tools.

The demonstration project is a four-step process to achieve the goal in each participating demonstration sites by cycles of continuous improvement that:

  1. Assess individuals and organizations to identify gaps in competencies.

  2. Conduct leadership and management development programs to exploit opportunities to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.

  3. Design and implement integrated competency-based human resource development system to support and sustain organizational improvement including recruitment, selection, succession planning, performance management, job design, reward and recognition and programs that align governance with leadership development objectives.
