National Center for Healthcare Leadership Appoints Dr. David L. Schreiner as Chief Executive Officer

Following an extensive nationwide search, a proven healthcare leadership champion has been selected to lead the organization

CHICAGO — The National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) today announced the appointment of Dr. David L. Schreiner as Chief Executive Officer, following a rigorous, nationwide executive search conducted by the Board’s Selection Committee.

Dr. Schreiner has served as NCHL’s Interim CEO since January 2026, and during that time he strengthened member and stakeholder engagement, advanced the organization’s mission, and demonstrated the leadership and values central to NCHL’s culture and strategic direction.

About Dr. David L. Schreiner

Dr. Schreiner is a seasoned hospital and health system CEO with decades of experience leading organizations through growth, transition, and complexity. A values-driven leader, he is widely respected for his ability to align strategy, culture, and performance while keeping people and mission at the center of healthcare leadership.

Having spent much of his career in rural and community-based healthcare, Dr. Schreiner is a passionate advocate for rural hospitals and small communities. His work focuses on strengthening executive communication, leadership presence, and organizational trust, capabilities that are especially critical in today’s healthcare environment.

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Schreiner served as an executive coach, speaker, and Executive-in-Residence at Vizient, Inc., where he supported healthcare leaders across the country. He brings with him deep engagement in national healthcare leadership circles, including long-standing involvement with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Dr. Schreiner is the author of the best-selling book Be the Best Part of Their Day: Supercharging Communication with Values-Driven Leadership, which reflects his commitment to intentional, values-based leadership and meaningful human connection.
